How do cookies work?
A "browser cookie" is a text file which a web server sends to your browser when you visit a website. Depending on your browser settings, the cookie file is either saved or rejected. If the file is saved, the APRIL web server can recognise your computer. At later visits, or when changing between functions which require you to enter a password, the cookie saves you having to re-enter certain pieces of information. This means that cookies makes it easier for you to use websites which require user information.
In principal, cookies do not pose a risk to your computer as they do only include text files and not executable programs.

Recommended cookie settings
You can either set your browser to be able to receive APRIL cookies or you can use the APRIL website without the cookie functionality; this means you can prevent cookies being saved by adjusting certain settings in your browser software. In this case, text entered into form fields cannot be stored for future enquiries, meaning that you have to re-enter your details the next time you visit the APRIL website.

Google Analytics uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyse how users use the site (see above).
